Close approach of the Moon and Saturn

, just about 57.6 arcminutes apart. In some places, the Moon will even pass right in front of Saturn – this is called a lunar occultation!

The Moon will be 3 days old, which means it will look like a thin crescent in the sky. You can start spotting them in the evening as the sky gets darker. They will stay up for a while before setting below the horizon.

The Moon will shine brightly with a magnitude of -10.2, while Saturn will have a magnitude of 1.0. Both will be in a part of the sky called the Aquarius constellation.

Even though they might be a little too far apart to see together through a telescope, you can easily spot them with your eyes or a pair of binoculars.

At the same time, the Moon and Saturn will also line up in the sky in what astronomers call a conjunction. This means they will share the same spot in the sky if you look at them from Earth!

If you’re curious about how close they’ll be, here are some fun facts about their positions at that time:

  • The Moon will be in the Aquarius constellation, shining brightly and looking big in the sky.
  • Saturn will also be in Aquarius, glowing like a small star but still visible.
